Clinic VAT and additional fees in Korea: reading the published wording

A clinic price is not fully described by the number alone. Its tax wording, service unit and eligibility conditions can change what the amount means for your inquiry. This guide explains how to record those statements accurately without deciding the tax treatment of an individual medical service.

In this guide
  1. Copy the tax statement with the price
  2. Keep base services and optional items separate
  3. Ask what could change the final bill
  4. Request a usable written total
  5. Read tax wording at the level of the actual offer
  6. Separate tax from other additions to the total

Keep the exact source wording that says VAT is included, excluded or not stated. A tax note on one promotion should not automatically be applied to every item on the website. If the source does not settle the question, leave the field unconfirmed and ask the clinic for the total that would apply to your plan.

Keep base services and optional items separate

An examination, a material, an anaesthetic service and a follow-up appointment can appear as different rows. Do not add them together until the clinic says which are needed and whether another package already covers them. Likewise, do not describe an individually priced material as the complete cost of the operation in which it might be used.

Ask what could change the final bill

Useful questions concern the proposed product or material, the treatment area, the number of sessions and any assessment still required. If a range is published, retain both ends and the reason for the variation when the clinic gives one. A minimum column is not a maximum column, and a nominal fee is not automatically the upper end of a range.

Request a usable written total

Before deciding, ask the clinic to state which amount is fixed and which part remains conditional. Keep that response separate from the older website capture. Use the catalogue to compare available information, but rely on the clinic’s confirmed quotation for the payment question.

Read tax wording at the level of the actual offer

An amount can be marked tax-inclusive, tax-exclusive or have no stated tax treatment. These are different pieces of information. Copy the wording attached to the specific offer and ask how the final quotation will present it. A note elsewhere on a network website may apply to a different service or branch. If the source is silent, keep the tax position unconfirmed instead of automatically adding a percentage or calling the fee exempt.

A foreign passport does not by itself settle the tax treatment of a service. Do not build your budget around an assumed refund or exemption. If a clinic describes a particular arrangement, ask what service it concerns, what current conditions apply and which documents would be needed. This guide is about reading a quotation, rather than determining your tax eligibility.

Separate tax from other additions to the total

The final amount can change because the clinical plan changes, not only because of tax. Ask about consultation, tests, anaesthesia, prescribed medication, materials and planned review as individual lines. If an additional item is optional, have it identified separately. A phrase such as “from” or “starting at” also needs explanation: it can describe a minimum fee rather than a fixed package with all components included.

KoreaClinicGo preserves the tax wording and conditions of published official prices where they can be verified. That makes it easier to identify differences, but the catalogue is not a final invoice. If two listings show different tax descriptions, compare their scopes before calculating which is cheaper. Save a branch-specific written total before committing to a paid plan.
