Veneers in Korea: what does no-prep mean for each tooth?

A no-prep veneer advertisement can sound like a complete answer about what will happen to your teeth. It is a starting point for questions. Ask the dentist to describe the proposed change to each tooth, including whether any natural tooth tissue would be removed. A package name or an attractive smile photograph cannot answer that for an unexamined person.

In this guide
  1. Start with the surface, not the smile package
  2. Have the dentist define no-prep in your own plan
  3. Separate an appearance goal from tooth health and bite
  4. Keep a preparation decision sheet for each tooth
  5. Distinguish a preview from the work being authorised
  6. Ask about continuing care without assuming a guarantee
  7. Start a dental shortlist with KoreaClinicGo

Start with the surface, not the smile package

The American Dental Association describes a veneer as a covering for the front of a tooth, whereas a crown covers the tooth more extensively. Porcelain and composite are different material options. Keep those names attached to the dentist’s actual proposal rather than accepting every cosmetic label as the same procedure.

Ask the dentist to point out which tooth surfaces would be involved. If an enquiry begins with a photograph, record which details still require an examination. A veneer proposal concerns an existing tooth; it is a different question from replacing a missing tooth with an implant, bridge or denture.

Have the dentist define no-prep in your own plan

The ADA explains that enamel removal makes veneer treatment irreversible. Ask whether the proposed plan involves removal, where it would occur, and what that means for keeping the tooth or restoring it in future. Do not assume that a marketing term establishes reversibility.

Write down the provider’s explanation of no-prep, minimal preparation or another term used in the quotation. If different teeth would receive different preparation, keep those decisions separate. Do not choose a thickness or a reduction measurement from an internet example: ask the treating dentist to explain the individual plan and its uncertainties.

Separate an appearance goal from tooth health and bite

Healthdirect notes that veneers do not correct tooth decay or a bite problem. Ask what examination is needed before deciding on an appearance change. Tell the dentist about clenching, grinding, previous restorations and any current concerns, and ask how those findings affect the options.

Explain the change you want in ordinary language, such as colour, a small gap or the visible shape of a particular tooth. Ask whether preserving the current tooth, a smaller repair, whitening or orthodontic assessment could address that concern. These are questions for the consultation, not a list of interchangeable treatments to select without assessment.

Keep a preparation decision sheet for each tooth

Use a short sheet to record the explanation rather than trying to approve an entire smile from one total. A blank answer remains an open question. Ask the clinic to clarify it before any irreversible work begins.

Distinguish a preview from the work being authorised

Ask whether any photograph, digital design or mock-up is an illustration, a proposed target or a representation of the specific work the dentist recommends. Have the clinic explain its limits. Keep your design preferences separate from agreement to remove tooth tissue.

For the option under discussion, ask when material, shade and tooth-by-tooth scope are confirmed. If the proposal changes after examination, request an updated explanation and estimate. A prior booking or deposit does not itself describe what preparation you have agreed to; clarify the clinic’s actual decision and consent process.

Ask about continuing care without assuming a guarantee

Healthdirect describes possible problems including sensitivity, a veneer cracking or coming away, and later colour differences. Ask which risks matter for your assessed teeth and what review arrangements are proposed. Avoid treating an online lifespan claim as a promise for your own restoration.

Keep the final tooth list, material description and procedure record. For practical price, laboratory and follow-up questions, use the related crown-planning guide while keeping the veneer’s scope distinct.
