MRI in Korea: arrange the requested examination and usable image files
An MRI appointment can produce a scan without resolving the practical question of who will use it. Start with the clinician’s request, confirm what examination the imaging team is proposing and arrange delivery of both the images and report. A body-part label or scan price does not show that those three steps match.

Begin with the clinical question and previous examination
Bring the referral or written request, relevant previous imaging and the earlier report if you have them. Ask the ordering clinician what the new examination is meant to answer and whether the receiving imaging centre needs to review the request before accepting a booking. A screening offer and imaging for a particular symptom are different appointment purposes.
Have the imaging team identify the proposed examination, area and any additional component. Ask what it means by the protocol description rather than selecting sequences or adding contrast yourself. Keep the wording of the clinical request with the booking confirmation so a different label can be clarified before the visit.
Complete the centre’s safety process before assuming eligibility
The NHS describes MRI screening questions about previous surgery, implanted or metal items, kidney problems, pregnancy and contrast allergies. Tell the imaging team about relevant circumstances through its safety process and bring device or implant documentation when requested. A generic product description is not a personal MRI safety clearance.
Raise anxiety about the scanner or any difficulty remaining still before the appointment. Ask for the booked centre’s individual preparation and accompaniment instructions, including those for any proposed medicine. This guide does not declare an implant safe, decide whether contrast is appropriate or give fasting or medicine-changing instructions.
Ask for three deliverables, not an undefined results package
The NHS explains that a radiologist reviews the images and a report is sent to the referring doctor. RadiologyInfo distinguishes access to images from access to radiology reports and describes sharing them with another clinician. Ask what your centre actually supplies and what the receiving team needs.
Record the answer under three headings:
- Images: the full study to be supplied, format, transfer method and access period.
- Report: when it will be ready, language, issuing service and any separate document fee.
- Clinical review: who will explain the result and decide the next step.
Confirm the receiving team can use what will be supplied
Ask the clinician at home which image format and transfer route it accepts. If it asks for DICOM files or another specified format, pass that request to the imaging centre and ask whether it can provide it. Do not convert the files into a few screenshots and assume that is an equivalent study.
Before departure, confirm that the promised transfer or collection has occurred and that the receiving service can access it, using the agreed clinical channel. Keep the original file set and written report together, with the examination date and issuing institution. A working download link alone does not confirm that a clinician has reviewed the study.
Keep privacy, access and fees visible
Ask whether online access expires, requires identity verification or remains available from abroad. Obtain the centre’s instructions for retaining a copy. Do not upload private scans to an unrelated public viewer just to test them; ask the receiving team how it can check access securely.
Request separate answers for the scan, any proposed contrast or other component, radiologist’s report, image export and clinical review. Keep included, separately charged and unspecified items distinct. Ask what happens if the request changes after assessment, rather than removing an imaging component simply to match a cheaper advertisement.
Close the loop with the clinician who requested the scan
Tell the team when you leave Korea and identify who will discuss an outstanding report. Ask what to do if the report or image transfer does not arrive as arranged. Keep the appointment record, report and any agreed next step in the same index so a later clinician can trace what was performed.
The UK and US sources explain general imaging and record-sharing considerations. Their legal access rights, referral arrangements and result timetables do not establish Korean requirements. No scan is recommended here, and no particular protocol, contrast decision, diagnosis or universal reporting deadline is supplied.
Find an appropriate clinic to ask
Use KoreaClinicGo’s clinic catalogue to compare locations and read available profiles before asking about an imaging appointment and access to its report and files. Start at the homepage if you are still choosing an area. Confirm the exact service, communication needs and appointment directly with the institution; the catalogue does not confirm availability or an individual treatment plan.
